The Republican presidential contenders took aim squarely at President Barack Obama while stumping in Florida on Tuesday.

“Tonight will mark another chapter in the misguided policies of the last three years of the failed leadership of one man,” said Mitt Romney, who campaigned in Fort Myers and Tampa.

In St. Petersburg, frontrunner Newt Gingrich criticized Obama’s policies regarding Cuba.

“It's very clear the Obama administration approach to the Castro regime is about as effective as his approach to the Iranians. We knew it would fail totally,” Gingrich said.

In Okeechobee, Rick Santorum said he would overturn the healthcare law passed and endorsed by Obama.

"Obamacare is the biggest issue in this election. It's the reason I got involved in this election," Santorum said.

But make no mistake, after Monday night's presidential debate in Tampa, it's clear the dogfight is between Romney and Gingrich, who was still hot from a win in South Carolina’s primary.

At issue is who is most conservative.

At the Tick Tock Restaurant in St. Petersburg, Gingrich put the Romney camp on blast for having a Charlie Crist adviser on staff. Crist, who switched from being a Republican to running as an independent, was the poster boy for moderates.

"As many of you know, Jose Mallea is helping us with our campaign. He was Marco Rubio's campaign manager. We discovered last night that Mitt Romney has picked up Charlie Crist's campaign people," Gingrich said. "That sort of tells you everything you needed to know about this contest."

A Romney campaign spokesman told Local 10 they have had former Crist adviser Stuart Stevens on staff since 2007.

But, to be fair, Romney also has on staff advisers who helped defeat Crist in his run for U.S. Senate, like Alberto Martinez.

The Romney campaign sent this response from Martinez regarding Gingrich’s comments:

"This is absurd. Mitt Romney endorsed Marco Rubio before Newt Gingrich did, and campaigned aggressively to make sure Marco Rubio defeated Charlie Crist. Besides, no one cares about past elections, they care about this one and defeating Barack Obama and restoring America. Floridians know Mitt Romney is the only conservative who can beat Barack Obama," Martinez wrote.
